The Meteorological Department has given a glimpse of another round of floods in September.

Flood situation may occur in several places in the northern, northeastern and southeastern regions of the country this month, according to the Meteorological Department.

According to the government agency, the country has received 47.2 percent more rainfall than normal in the month of August. And due to monsoonal heavy rains in the northern, northeastern and southeastern regions of the country in September, short-term flooding may occur in some places.

There is a possibility of normal rainfall in the country in this month. There may be moderate thunderstorms for two to three days in the northern and central parts of the country and light thunderstorms for three to five days across the country.

Sardar Uday Raihan, Executive Engineer of Flood Forecasting and Warning Center, said that the information given by the Meteorological Department about the rivers is the information given by them. This is a general forecast for the entire month.

This is not a specific prediction. Generally normal rainfall occurs during this month. In this month itself, it has been seen that there is a possibility of flooding in the northern, northeastern and southeastern regions of the country.

Uday Raihan said that they predict floods for 10 to 15 days at most. A month forecast is usually made by comparing and reviewing data with previous years.

This month (September) will have normal rainfall. And normal rain means there will be a normal risk of flooding. There are earlier records, flooding in some areas during this period. But major floods are rare. There is a possibility in September. It is not even the case that there will be a flood.

The water condition of major river basins – Brahmaputra, Ganga, Yamuna, Padma, Surma, Kushiara has been given for the next 10 days. But our message is different for rivers like Teesta, Dharla, Dudhkumar, Khoya, Dhala, Feni, Manu, Muhuri which cause flash floods. A 10-day forecast will not work here. A 3-day forecast is given for these rivers.’

One to two mild (36-38 degree Celsius) heatwaves may occur isolated to the country during this month. Day and night temperatures may be slightly higher than normal in this month.
