Environmentalist organization Sabuj Andolan has commented that India wants to carry out genocide in Bangladesh by releasing the dam water without warning.
The organization made this comment in a meeting on Wednesday.
Bappi Sardar, chairman of the Green Movement, said, ‘All the rivers that flow through two or more countries starting from any part of the world are called international rivers. According to the 1997 United Nations Watercourses Convention, international rivers cannot be used in a way that harms other countries. Every state is responsible for respecting international law. But as India deliberately opened the Teestar Dam on Tuesday (August 20) along with Feni district of Bangladesh and on Wednesday (August 21), various districts of Feni, Bandarban, Chittagong, Rangpur divisions have already submerged under water.
He said, ‘Sluicegates were opened without any warning and many people died as well as drowning. Millions of people are homeless, animals and birds have died, and crops have been destroyed.’
