The water is rising in the Padma due to the opening of 109 gates in Farakka

The opening of 109 gates of Farakka barrage has led to a rise of 2 cm in Padma river at Lalpur in Natore. 

NATO Water Development Board Executive Engineer Rafiqul Alam Chowdhury confirmed this information on Monday evening. He also said that the water in Lalpur part of Padmanadi has not crossed the limit yet. At present, water is flowing 1.8 meters below the danger line.

Ishwardi UP Chairman No. 2 of Lalpur Upazila on the bank of Padma River Abdul Aziz Ranju confirmed the rise in water in Padma River and said that the water in the river has started rising after opening 109 gates of Farakka. But it has not crossed the threshold yet.

Limon Islam, a resident of the river bank, said that he came to know that the water in the river has started to rise due to the opening of the Farakka gate. As the water rises, the pasture crops have also started to sink. As a result we are worried about our crops.

Lalpur Upazila Nirbahi Officer Mehedi Hasan said that the water of Padma river has not crossed the danger level yet. We are constantly monitoring. Still, people along the riverbanks have been asked to remain vigilant.
