Attack on Barnikat: Former MP Sadek Khan arrested

In 2018, former MP Sadek Khan was arrested by the police in connection with the attack on the US Ambassador Marsha Barnikat.


He was arrested on Saturday (August 24) in the case of Mohammadpur police station from West Nakhalpara of the capital.

Additional Deputy Commissioner of Police (ADC) Obaidur Rahman of Media and Public Relations Department of DMP confirmed this information.

Sadek Khan was elected Member of Parliament from Dhaka-13 Constituency as the nominated candidate of Bangladesh Awami League in the 11th National Parliament Election.

On the night of August 4, 2018, the then US Ambassador Marsha Barnikat attended a dinner at the Mohammadpur residence of Badiul Alam Majumder, the editor of Sujon. The attack took place when he was getting into the car after dinner.

In 1997, Sadek Khan was elected as the youngest councilor of the undivided Dhaka City Corporation and served until 2001. He was elected four times as a councilor from the then Ward No. 47 and the current Ward No. 34. He also received the best councilor award. He then served as Acting Mayor twice.

Sadek Khan served as President of Mohammadpur Thana Awami League from 1996 to 2015. In 1996, 2001 and 2008 Jatiya Sangsad elections, he served as the President of the Dhaka-13 Constituency Election Management Committee.

Sadek Khan was a member of Dhaka College Chhatra League in 1973. He is the former General Secretary of Dhaka Metropolitan North Awami League. Currently he was serving as vice president of Dhaka Metropolitan North Awami League.
