Sheikh Hasina resigned from the post of Prime Minister on August 5 in a popular student uprising and fled to India. Bangladesh National Party (BJP) Chairman Barrister Andalib Rahman Parth was vocal in that movement from the beginning. He had to go to prison and remand for this movement. Later, the day after the fall of Sheikh Hasina, Barrister Perth got bail on August 6.

Meanwhile, on August 8, Nobel laureate Dr. An interim government was formed under the leadership of Yunus. Currently Awami League supported parties are not active in politics but BNP supported parties are active.

Former Member of Parliament and BJP Chairman Barrister Andalib Rahman Parth spoke openly with Yugantar about contemporary issues in the country’s politics. The interview was conducted by Manik Raihan Bappi .

Yugantar: What are your expectations for the interim government?

Barrister Perth: To be honest people have high expectations from this government. But we all have to cooperate from our respective places to realize the expectations. No one has any question about the credibility and acceptability of this government. Those in this government are personally successful people. Since they are coming suddenly, they need to be given opportunities, help and time.

Yugantar: How long should the term of the interim government be?

Barrister Perth: They didn’t just undertake fair elections. Since they are planning to repair the state, how much and how to repair it – so far they have not given any guidelines. In particular, what important repairs the state will undertake and how much time they need, then it can be said how long the period should be.

Especially since people could not vote for 17 years. It is a strong desire of people. We also have desires. The bottom line is, the timing of this government will determine what kind of state they want to repair.

Breakthrough: Along with ministers, Sheikh Hasina’s private sector advisor Salman Fazlur Rahman has been arrested; The one whose corruption you were most vocal about was given the title of dervish.

Barrister Perth: Of course Salman F Rahman will be tried on the soil of the country. Dervish should be judged on the soil of Bengal. He destroyed the economy of Bangladesh. He also destroyed the economic system. He is directly involved in the genocide that took place in the country.

Yugantar: How to evaluate the work of the interim government in the transition from dictatorship to democracy?

Barrister Perth: The government has started some work. The actions initiated against various irregularities of corruption are certainly commendable. I think there is still a long way to go.

Yugantar: Will you join the alliance with BNP in the near future?

Barrister Perth: We cannot say anything about that at the moment. These will be seen in the future. In which direction the election is going, what is the situation in the country. Time will tell.

Yugantar: Who do you want to see as the prime minister in Bangladesh in the future?

Barrister Perth: The people will decide who will be the next Prime Minister. In my opinion, Tariq Rahman is more likely to become the Prime Minister if the nationalist party BNP comes to power.

I think what the people want is what we want. We want a fair politics.

Yugantar: What can happen in the future of Awami League?

Barrister Perth: It will depend on their course of action and their role in future days. They may be destroyed in the current situation of Awami League. Again with good leadership it can slowly turn around. However, it will take many more years for the Awami League to take responsibility for the killings and genocide.

I think in principle, now Awami League has no moral right to do politics.

Yugantar: The new Awami government banned Jamaat-e-Islami days before its fall. How do you see it?

Barrister Perth: The Awami League government thought that if the Jamaat was banned, they would launch a program. Later, the anti-discrimination student movement would try to tag it as a Jamaat movement; But they did not succeed.

Turning point: Should they remain banned, or should the ban be lifted?

Barrister Perth : Political parties are never banned from people’s minds. A party is not banned with the stroke of a pen if it does not do any such thing.
