Case against 79 people including former state minister Nazrul

A case has been registered in the police station against 54 people including former state minister of labor and employment and former member of parliament Nazrul Islam Chowdhury in Satkania of Chittagong. Apart from this, 20-25 unidentified persons have been made accused in the case. Almost all of the accused are leaders and activists of Awami League and its affiliated organizations.

The case was filed on Tuesday afternoon on charges of assault and attempted murder of his son Omar Farooq during the election campaign of retired LDP president Colonel Oli Ahmed (umbrella symbol) in the 2018 parliamentary elections. The plaintiff in the case is Sarwar Jamal, a resident of Ward No. 8 of Janar Kenochia village of Kenochia union of Satkania upazila. He is serving as the Joint General Secretary of Kenochia Union LDP.

Nazrul Islam Chowdhury, former state minister and former Member of Parliament of Chittagong-14 (Chandnaish-Satkania partial) constituency, has been made the main accused in the case. Apart from this, the defendants in the case include his younger brother Jasim Uddin, businessman Abdul Qayyum Chowdhury, former upazila chairman Abdul Jabbar Chowdhury, Bazalia Union Parishad (UP) chairman Tapas Kanti Dutta, Kenochia UP chairman Ochman Ali, former Chittagong South District Chhatra League joint secretary Aminul Islam. , his younger brother Touhidul Islam, Satkania Upazila Tanti League President Abu Saleh, Upazila Chhatra League President Mohammad Ali, Upazila Chhatra League Former President Shafiul Alam, Kenochia Union Awami League President Md. Yunuch, general secretary Ripon Kanti Dash, former president of Kenochia Union Awami League Osman Gani Sikder, vice president of North Satkania organizational police station Jubo League Shafiul Azad Chowdhury, former member of Chadaha UP Syed Nazrul Islam and others.

It has been mentioned in the statement of the case that on December 15, 2018, his son Omar Farooq was conducting an election campaign with leaders and activists on behalf of LDP president and member of parliament candidate Oli Ahmed in Temuhani Cyclone Shelter and surrounding area of ​​Kenochia Union of Upazila. At that time, under the leadership of Nazrul Islam Chowdhury and his brother, an attack was carried out with the intention of killing Omar Farooq, son of Ali Ahmed, with various weapons. Omar Farooq and several supporters were seriously injured. The attackers, leaders and workers of Awami League and its affiliated organizations took away money, mobile phone and bank card from the injured Omar Farooq.

General Secretary of Satkania Upazila LDP. Jasim Uddin told Prothom Alo, ‘After that incident, we went to the police station to file a case. But the then police officers did not take the case. Now that the situation is favorable, the case has been filed. We hope that there will be a fair trial of that incident.’

Mizanur Rahman, officer-in-charge of Satkania police station, told Prothom Alo that a case has been filed in the police station against 54 people, including former state minister of labor and employment, Nazrul Islam Chowdhury, and 20-25 unidentified people. A police team has started working to arrest the accused in the case.
