Quick elections after everything is reformed: Dr. Yunus

The chief adviser of the interim government. Muhammad Yunus told foreign diplomats that free, fair and participatory elections will be held as soon as possible after everything is reformed.

He said, ‘The main task of the present government is to arrange a fair election as soon as possible. But before that, a suitable environment will be created through radical reforms of Election Commission, Judiciary, Civil Administration, Law Enforcement Forces and Media.’

Later, Chief Adviser’s Press Secretary Shafiqul Alam briefed the journalists.

After the fall of the Sheikh Hasina government in the face of the mass movement of the students, on August 8 Dr. An interim government headed by Yunus was sworn in. He held meetings with foreign diplomats for the first time after assuming office.

Shafiqul Alam said that the chief adviser told the diplomats that the main task of his government at the moment is to normalize the law and order situation. Muhammad Yunus said, the situation is getting normal.

The Chief Adviser welcomed the UN investigation team to carry out an impartial investigation into the killings that took place during the student protests.

Referring to the popular uprising of August 5 as the second independence of Bangladesh, he told the diplomats, ‘Our new journey has begun. I expect your full cooperation for the reconstruction of this country.’

At the end of the briefing, the Chief Adviser exchanged pleasantries with the diplomats.
