3 crores and foreign currency recovered from former secretary’s house

The police recovered more than Tk 3 crore in cash and foreign currency worth Tk 10 lakh from the house of Md Shah Kamal, former senior secretary of the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief.

The Dhaka Metropolitan Police (DMP) raided Shah Kamal’s residence on Friday (August 16) evening in Mohammadpur’s Babar Road and recovered the money and foreign currency.

According to the DMP, these money and foreign currency were recovered from house number 29/2 and 3 of F Block of Babar Road on the basis of secret information. 3 crore 1 lakh 10 thousand 166 taka in cash, 100 taka prize bonds worth taka 74 thousand 400 and foreign currency worth taka 10 lakh 3 thousand 306 were recovered from that house. Among these foreign currencies, 3 thousand US dollars, 1 thousand 320 Malaysian ringgit, 2 thousand 969 Saudi riyals, 4 thousand 122 Singapore dollars, 1 thousand 915 Australian dollars, 35 thousand Korean yuan and 199 Chinese yuan were found.

It may be noted that when Shah Kamal was the secretary of the Ministry of Disaster Management and Relief, there were allegations against him of taking illegal money from various sources including transfers, purchases and development works.
