‘Youth of Bangladesh never got a chance to vote’

The demand for quota reform eventually turned into a one-party movement to topple the government. In the end, Sheikh Hasina’s government fell through this movement of students. Sheikh Hasina resigned and fled the country. 

From the beginning of this movement, a large part of the country’s young generation was present. Therefore, after the fall of the government, the Nobel laureate economist Dr. congratulated the youth of the country. Muhammad Yunus.

Talking to the Indian media NDTV, the young generation of the country has never had the opportunity to exercise their right to vote. This Nobel laureate said, ‘It should be ensured that they (the young generation) are happy and can develop into law-abiding citizens. Let them understand that there is democracy in the country. These young people have never had the opportunity to vote.’

Explaining the matter of voting. Yunus added, ‘They never went to the polling stations, because those elections did not actually take place. Our first task will be to engage the youth.’

Note that there are many questions about the 2014, 2018 and 2024 elections under the Awami League government. Opposition parties boycotted the 2014 elections. The 2018 election was known as the ‘night vote’. And in the last elections held in January this year, the Awami League leaders stood as ‘dummy’ candidates in the face of exclusion of the opposition parties.
