2 Bangladeshis killed in firing by Indian Khasia on Sylhet border

Two Bangladeshi nationals named Ali Hossain (30) and Kawsar Ahmad (32) were killed by Indian Khasia community in Sylhet’s Companyganj border.

The incident took place near India Border Pillar (No-1253) in Companyganj at around 6 pm on Sunday (July 14).

The deceased Ali and Kawsar are residents of Kalibari village in the same upazila.

Even after 24 hours of the incident, the bodies of the victims have not been handed over.

According to local sources, Ali, Kawsar and Nabi Hussain entered India illegally sometime on Sunday to bring goods from across the border. Later it was reported that Ali and Kawsar were shot dead by Indian Khasias. After some time the Prophet came back injured.

Uttar Ronikhai Union Parishad (UP) Chairman Md. Faizur Rahman said, ‘The bodies of the two youths who were shot dead in the Indian border area were not brought back to the country until Monday afternoon. The meeting of BGB and BSF officials is going on since morning.

He also said, ‘Local people’s houses are in the border area, so they often go to and fro inside India to collect wood. Ali and Kawsar could have gone there that way.’

According to the police on Monday (July 15) afternoon, a flag meeting is going on between the senior officers of BGB and BSF to bring their bodies back to the country.

Officer-in-Charge (OC) of Companyganj Police Station Golam Dastgir Ahmed said, ‘The bodies of two youths are still in India. BGB-BSF members are discussing to bring their bodies back to the country. After bringing the police to the country, the next legal process will be taken.
