While investigating international kidney trafficking, the Delhi Police uncovered a large-scale ring. A Bangladeshi citizen, an Indian doctor and his accomplice have been arrested by the Delhi Crime Branch police for their involvement in the international kidney trafficking ring.

Three of the arrested are from Bangladesh, police said. Arrested doctor Vijaya Raja Kumari is associated with two private hospitals in Delhi.

Delhi Anti Crime Branch DCP Amit Goyal told news agency ANI, “The Crime Branch has uncovered an international ring involved in illegal organ trafficking. At the top of this cycle is a Bangladeshi national named Russell.”

“On investigation, we have come to know that both the patient and the donor are Bangladeshi nationals in this case. The organ trafficking ring called Russell used to procure both patients and organ donors.”

Recently, Rajasthan’s anti-corruption branch officials conducted a raid and found some persons associated with the kidney trafficking ring in that state.

Those involved in the international kidney trafficking ring used to create fake documents, on the basis of which patients from Bangladesh were illegally transplanted in Indian hospitals.

It was during the investigation of that case that other persons involved in this gang were traced. In the last two weeks, Delhi Police has arrested a total of seven people, including three Bangladeshi nationals, for their involvement in this gang.

The police told news agency ANI that kidney transplants were being done in return for huge sums of money. 25 to 30 lakhs were demanded from the patient’s family. This cycle was active since 2019.

Amit Goyal, DCP of Delhi’s Anti-Crime Branch, said, “We have arrested Russell. At the same time, people involved in this gang have also been arrested. Among them are the doctors of the hospital where the organ was transplanted. He used to work with this circle. The suspected employee of the hospital has also been arrested.”

Incidentally, this phenomenon is not new. Earlier, a similar kidney trafficking ring linked to Bangladesh was traced.

What the police are saying about the role of the doctor

Delhi Police said Vijaya Raja Kumari, the doctor who was arrested, has been associated with this gang for the past few years. He worked as a senior renal transplant surgeon or kidney transplant surgeon.

Dr. Vijaya Raja Kumari worked as a doctor on a fee-for-service basis at a hospital in Indraprastha area of Delhi. Hospital sources informed that he has been suspended.

At the same time, he was also associated with another private hospital in Noida, Delhi.

When asked about this, Amit Goel said, “The doctor played an important role in this cycle. He knew about this illegal trafficking. He knew that a relative of the patient was not donating the organ as per the rules. Despite this, he surgically transplanted the organ. .”

When asked about which hospital these illegal transplants were done, he said, “That doctor is associated with a hospital where this illegal work was done. And so far two hospitals have been named in the investigation. We are trying to find out more details by interrogating the arrested. “

Hospitals associated with Dr. “The doctor has been suspended after a police investigation,” Vijaya Raja Kumari, a spokesperson for one of its Indraprastha Apollo Hospitals, told the media.

“Earlier some information was sought from the Indraprastha Apollo Hospital by the Crime Branch, we have provided it. But that investigation was about another hospital. After that we suspended that doctor. Indraprastha Apollo Hospital is in no way involved in the incident (organ trafficking).”

He used to work as a visiting consultant in another private hospital with which the accused doctor was associated. Additional Medical Superintendent of Yathharth Hospital Sunil Balian told the media that Dr. Raja Kumari was working in the hospital as a visiting consultant. He used to transplant the organs of his patients.

Mr. “Yatharth has not been entrusted with the treatment of any patient and has undergone one surgery in the last three months,” Balian said.

According to police information, persons associated with the gang promised kidney transplants to patients from Bangladesh in major hospitals in the Delhi region. Dr. Raja Kumari and his associates used to arrange organ transplants. Donors were pretended to be relatives of patients by creating fake documents.

How did this cycle work?

Police said the arrested accused Russell and his accomplices used to find patients with kidney problems in Bangladesh. For this, they used to keep an eye on the dialysis centers.

Patients were brought to India and promised kidney transplants. On the other hand, financially weaker persons were sought as donors. It is alleged that some of them were brought back to India with false promises of job opportunities.

The ‘middlemen’ associated with this cycle used to pay 4-5 lakh rupees to the donors while 25-30 lakh rupees were collected from the patient.

How the trace of this cycle was found

Last April, Rajasthan’s Anti-Corruption Bureau arrested three people in a crackdown on a ring of issuing fake no-objection certificates to foreign nationals for organ transplants in return for money. It is known from the accused that Delhi is connected with this cycle.

Delhi’s Crime Branch police recently conducted a raid based on information from the Rajasthan police. After the gang leader, Russell, is arrested, he reveals the name of one of his accomplices to police interrogation.

According to the police, his accomplice named Mohammad Shariq is a resident of Uttar Pradesh. According to the interrogation, his work was Dr. Taking appointment for replacement from Raja Kumari. Arrange all the tests that are done before surgery. On the other hand, Dr. The princess’s accomplices arranged for fake documents of the donor. Donors were shown as relatives of patients.

After receiving information from Mohammed Sharik and Russell, the doctor and his associate were arrested.
