Grandmaster Zia died while playing chess

Grandmaster Ziaur Rahman had a match against Grandmaster Enamul Hossain Rajeev on Friday (July 5) in the 12th round of the National Chess Competition. Ziaur collapsed at 5:52 minutes while playing in the match that started at 3:00. He later died after being taken to the hospital (Inna Lillahi wa Inna Ilaihi Raziun).

According to chess federation sources, doctors could not find his pulse for about 15 minutes. Later, the doctors said that Zia died before being taken to the hospital. The doctors gave the death certificate of this grandmaster who was born on May 1, 1974 at around 7:20.

Zia is believed to have died of a heart attack.

Ziaur was 50 years old at the time of his death. His wife Lavanya was also in the federation during Zia’s match. His son Tahsin Tajwar is also playing national chess. The sudden death of this chess player has cast a shadow of mourning on the country’s chess arena.
