Secretary General of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami and former MP Professor Mia Golam Parwar strongly condemned and protested the unjust arrest of 7 Jamaat leaders and activists in Bandarban district town and demanded the immediate release of all the arrested leaders and activists. He claimed this in a statement on Sunday, June 30.

In the statement, he said, “On June 27, the police arrested 7 Jamaat leaders and activists in Bandarban district town unjustly.” There was no warrant against them. They have been arrested for absolutely no reason. The police detained them for 2 days and 2 nights in the police station and sent them to the court with a case under the Special Powers Act. The court did not grant bail and sent them to jail. I strongly condemn and protest against this unjust oppression of the government.

In the statement, he also said that the present tyrannical government has been oppressing the leaders and activists of opposition parties including Jamaat for the past 15 years. Opposition party leaders are being detained and harassed in jail for years without any reason. Many leaders and activists of the opposition party have left their homes due to the fear of arrest by the government. Many businesses have closed down. An unelected government is trying to silence dissenting voices in order to prolong its power. Power cannot be prolonged by torture.

I call on the concerned authorities to immediately release all the arrested leaders and activists of Jamaat-e-Islami and Islami Chhatrashibir across the country, including the 7 leaders and activists of Bandarban district city, to stop the oppression and torture.”
