Rajbari Blood Donors Club founder Sonia Akhtar Smriti, a social activist, was picked up by the police late on Tuesday (October 4) in front of her two children for writing on Facebook about the dire power cuts across the country.

It is known that Sonia Akhtar Smriti has collected free blood for more than 27 thousand dementia patients in the last 13 years. Currently, he collects about 15 bags of blood every day and supplies it to various dementia patients. He has received many honors including ‘Kheyaghat Award for Literature’, ‘Priyabasini Bangladesh Award’ for his contribution to social work.

Rajbari Thana police raided the house of the social worker late on Tuesday night. The Awami Police committed such misdeeds following the complaint of a local Awami leader named Shamsul Arefin Chowdhury for writing on Facebook about the power outage.

Sonia Akhtar Smriti’s husband lives abroad. She has two young children, who are shocked by their mother’s sudden arrest.

In a video circulating on social media, Sonia Akhtar had a brief conversation with the police when she went to arrest Smriti.

At that time, Sonia Akhtar addressed the police and said, “You have come to catch me? At night. I have two small children. I am ready to go out.”

He said, “They are coming to catch me based on my Facebook status. So, they will come to catch me during the day. Why at night? Did I run away during the day?”

In response, a member of the police said, “There is no legal direction to go to someone’s house during the day…”

In response, Sonia Akhtar Smriti said, “Am I a terrorist?”

The police said indignantly, “There is no need for so much.”

At that time, Sonia Akhtar Smriti said, “You are coming 4-5 hundred (indistinct) to pick me up, is that it? Since you are coming, I am leaving voluntarily. My children are very scared. What you are doing is child abuse.” . I’m going out. I’m getting ready to talk to my husband.”

After that, Sonia Akhtar Smriti told people on Facebook, “You saw the police coming to pick me up. I’m going out. Everyone will be fine, stay healthy. I’m fine.”
