Jatrabari twin murder case, killer not identified

A case has been registered on Thursday night in connection with the murder of Shafiqur Rahman-Farida Yasmin couple in Jatrabari of the capital. Abdullah Al Mamun, the son of the deceased couple, filed a murder case at Jatrabari Police Station as the plaintiff. However, the police could not identify anyone in the case of this pair of murders till today Friday.

Abdullah Al Mamun, the only son of the deceased couple, is a Sub-Inspector (SI) of the Special Branch of Police. He stated in the statement of the case that between 1:00 am last Wednesday and 6:00 am the next day yesterday, miscreants entered their house and hacked his parents to death. This murder was planned due to previous enmity.

Abdullah Al Mamun told Prothom Alo today that he could not find any answer as to why he killed his parents. He does not think that his parents were killed only because of a land dispute in the village house. He said that after the post-mortem at the mortuary of Dhaka Medical College, the bodies of his parents were buried in the capital’s Matuail cemetery last night.

The police initially believe that the Shafiqur-Farida couple was killed due to a family dispute.

Officer-in-charge of Jatrabari police station Abul Hasan told Prothom Alo today that there is no progress in the investigation of the case. Police are working to identify the killer and solve the mystery of the case.

Dhaka Metro South Division of the Police Bureau of Investigation (PBI) is investigating the case. PBI Dhaka Metro South Additional Special Superintendent of Police Sarwar Jahan told Prothom Alo that this was a planned murder. But for what reason, who committed the murder, it is not yet certain.

Police officer Sarwar Jahan said there is no closed circuit (CC) TV camera near the house of the deceased couple. Because of this, the police have to speed up in identifying the murderer.

The police of Jatrabari police station found the body of Shafikur (62) in the ground floor parking lot of the Momenbagh house after receiving a call to the National Emergency Service number 999 yesterday morning. There are marks of sharp weapon injury on his neck. Police members went to the second floor and found the body of Farida (55) in the bedroom. There are marks of sharp weapon injuries on his head and body. At the time of the incident, Abdullah Al Mamun, the son of the deceased couple, was at his grandfather’s house in Feni.
