Jamaat demands to rescue water prisoners and send medical team to Sylhet

Expressing deep concern over the overall flood situation in the Greater Sylhet region, Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami Naib Amir Prof. Mujibur Rahman says, ‘quickly rescue the flood victims and give them shelter in a safe place and send various food items including dry food, cash, medicine and medical supplies and medical teams to the affected areas. I strongly demand from the government.

He said this in a statement on Thursday.

He said, ‘I am deeply concerned about the overall flood situation in the Sylhet region due to the hill slopes coming down from the upstream and continuous heavy rains.’

He appealed to everyone to stand by the flood victims.

Flooding has occurred in Surma, Kushiara basins of Sylhet since few days due to hill slopes coming from upstream and incessant heavy rains. Currently, the flood situation has become serious. Already 13.5 million people have become watertight. Almost half a million people have been trapped by water in Sylhet city.

In Sylhet, Sunamganj, Moulvibazar, Habiganj, etc., a total of 1.35 lakh people have become waterlogged. Crops, orchards, orchards and seedbeds were submerged in water. Pets are not available. Also, the lower areas of Netrakona, Sherpur, Nilphamari, Kurigram, Gaibandha etc. districts have been inundated with flood water. The overall flood situation is expected to worsen further.

He said, ‘It is necessary to rescue the people trapped in water in flood-prone areas including greater Sylhet and shelter them in safe higher places. Also, I strongly demand the government to send food items including dry food, cash, medical supplies, medicines and medical teams on an urgent basis to the flood affected people. I call on all the leaders and activists of Bangladesh Jamaat-e-Islami in the relevant areas, charitable persons, various aid organizations and all the countrymen to give full support to the flood victims.
