’17 thousand workers could not go to Malaysia, action will be taken against those responsible’

The state minister said that 4 lakh 93 thousand 642 people have been given clearance from the Bureau of Manpower Employment and Training (BMET) till May 31. Among them, 4 lakh 76 thousand 672 have gone to Malaysia so far. According to that, about 16 thousand 970 people could not go.

State Minister for Expatriate Welfare and Foreign Employment Shafiqur Rahman Chowdhury said that an investigation committee will be formed to find out those responsible for the workers not being able to go to Malaysia at the last minute despite having valid visas.

Additional Secretary of Employment Division Noor Md. has been made the head of this committee of six members. Mahbubul Haque. The committee has been asked to submit a self-contained report within the next seven working days. Apart from investigating the reasons for the failure to send the staff to Malaysia, it has been asked to make recommendations to stop harassment of those wishing to go abroad and to determine what to do to deal with such situations in the future.

He said these things when reporters asked about sending workers to Malaysia in the Ministry of Expatriate Welfare and Foreign Employment on Sunday afternoon.

The time to go to Malaysia on worker visas ended last Friday. The Malaysian government had communicated this deadline to all parties involved in sending workers some time ago. In the end, many people returned from the airport last Friday, unable to go to Malaysia.

Stating that disciplinary action will be taken against those responsible, Shafiqur Rahman said that the investigation committee will also work to identify failed recruiting agencies.

He said the government was sincere in sending all the workers to Malaysia within the stipulated time. An urgent notification in this regard has been given in the newspaper. An additional 23 flights were operated to send personnel to Malaysia.

Regarding the syndicate, the minister said that the syndicate has been created because the country that will take manpower wants it. The government does not believe in any syndicate. The government wants all agencies approved by the government to send people.

The minister expressed hope for the opening of Malaysia’s labor shrine soon, saying that the government is working on the issue seriously.

Ruhul Amin, the secretary of the ministry, said that approval has been given only to those who had tickets since May 24. No one is allowed outside of this.
