A member of militant organization Hizbut Tahrir was arrested in Palash

Anti Terrorism Unit (ATU) of Police has arrested an active member of banned militant organization Hizbut Tahrir in Palash Upazila of Narsingdi. The young man named Jewel Bhuiyan (26) was arrested in front of a tea shop adjacent to the Ghorashal-Palash Urea Fertilizer Project in Palash on Tuesday night.

Jewel Bhuiyan is the son of Abul Bhuiyan of Kazirchar village in Dulalpur union of Shibpur upazila. Palash Police Station Officer-in-Charge (OC) Mohammad Iktyar Uddin confirmed the information about his arrest.

According to the police, members of the Anti-Terrorism Unit kept Jewell under surveillance for a long time for his arrest. A team led by ATU Deputy Inspector (SI) Zeeshan Ahmed raided the Ghorashal-Palash Urea Fertilizer Project area on Tuesday night after information about his location in Palash was confirmed with the help of information technology. At that time, they arrested him in front of a tea shop. Police claimed that a mobile phone and a leaflet of a banned organization were seized from him during the arrest.

Mohammad Iqtiyar Uddin, OC of Palash police station, said that the arrested Jewel Bhuiyan used to collect new members of Hizbut Tahrir and distribute leaflets to gather public support. Last night ATU SI Zishan Ahmed filed a case against him under the Anti-Terrorism Act. Preparations are underway to send him to court.
