Netanyahu is dragging out the Gaza war to save his career: Biden

US President Joe Biden continues to criticize Israel’s handling of the war against the Palestinian resistance movement Hamas in Gaza as the Palestinian death toll rises. In a new interview, he said there was “ample reason” to believe Prime Minister Benjamin Netanyahu was prolonging the conflict to save himself politically.

Nearing eight months into the war, the Israeli leader has faced conflicting demands from Biden and other world leaders to end the conflict. Right-wing lawmakers in the Israeli parliament, on the other hand, said they would withdraw support for Netanyahu and overthrow his government if they agree to a cease-fire without removing the last vestiges of Hamas control in Gaza.

Last week, Biden announced an Israeli proposal for a cease-fire in Gaza and called for world support. A few days ago, Time magazine asked Biden in an interview whether he thinks that Netanyahu is prolonging the war for political self-defense.

Biden admits that he and Netanyahu have a strained relationship. Because the death toll in Gaza has exceeded 36,000. This includes civilians as well as combatants. They are at odds over whether a revived Palestinian Authority should rule Gaza after the war. The United States supports such a plan. Netanyahu, on the other hand, rejected it without detailing his own plans.

Biden wants to know, ‘My main disagreement with Netanyahu is what happens next… after Gaza? Where does it go back? Will the Israelis enter again?’
