Newborns stolen from Dhaka Medical

A complaint of theft of a newborn baby was received from the labor ward of Dhaka Medical College (Dhamek) Hospital.

The incident took place in ward number 212 on Tuesday (June 4) between 1.30 pm and 2.00 pm.

The father of the newborn, Shariful Islam, said that his village is in Kumarkhali, Kushtia. Currently, he works as a day laborer from a rented house in Savar area. His wife Sukhi Akhter was admitted to ward number 212 of Dhaka Medical from Kalampur in Savar on Monday night.

He said, ‘Tuesday around 10 am my wife gave birth to twin girls. Between the two newborns, my elder daughter developed fever and a woman by the side said, give the baby to me, you bring medicine for the elder child. Later I took a page and returned to the ward. I ask my mother, where is the child. Later I saw that the woman to whom I had given the child was no more. Later we informed the matter to Ansar members and hospital authorities.’

He also said, ‘I am a poor person, I work as a laborer. I want my baby back.’

In this regard, Ansar commander Mizan said, ‘Initially we interrogated the father of the newborn and then we contacted the police outpost and the police came. They analyzed the CCTV footage and started an investigation to rescue the newborn.

DMK Hospital police camp in-charge Md. Bachchu Mia told Naya Digant, ‘As soon as I came to know about the matter, I informed the Shahbag police station.
