In Narail, post-election violence, house attack- vandalism, 2 injured

According to police and local sources, tension has been going on between the supporters of the winning candidate AKM Faizul Haque and the defeated candidate SMA Hannan in Lahuria Union since the announcement of the election results. As a result of this, the supporters of the winning candidate beat Tariqul Molya, a supporter of the defeated candidate, near his house in Doharpara at around eight o’clock last night. Later he was rescued and taken to Magura Sadar Hospital.

Meanwhile, when the news of the beating of Tariqul Molya spread, the supporters of the defeated candidate beat Ghiyasuddin Molya, a supporter of the opposing winning candidate, in Lahuria Bazar. The injured Ghiyasuddin Molya was rescued and first taken to Narail Sadar Hospital and later taken to Dhaka Medical College Hospital for advanced treatment. Later that night, the supporters of the winning candidate vandalized and looted at least 20 houses of the supporters of the defeated candidate in Doharpara. Later, supporters of the defeated candidate attacked a house of the winning candidate.

Inspector Salim Uddin, officer-in-charge of Lahuria Police Investigation Center, said that additional police were deployed in the area immediately after the incident. The situation in the area is now normal. Police operations are continuing to nab those involved in the incident.
