The court sentenced 10 people, including father and son, to life imprisonment in Saidul’s murder case due to a dispute related to land in Kalai, Joypurhat. At the same time each of them has been sentenced to another two years imprisonment without payment of a fine of one lakh rupees.
Judge Nurul Islam of the Additional Sessions Judge-1 court gave the verdict on Tuesday afternoon.
This has been confirmed by the District Judge’s Court Assistant Counsel Abu Nashim Md. Shamimul Imam Shamim.
The convicts are Zainal Mandal, Mozammel Haque and Mofazzal Hossain, sons of deceased Tafiz Uddin, Mozammel Haque and Mofazzal Hossain, Mozammel’s sons Mostafa and Mozfar Ali, Mozammel’s sons Mahfuzar and Masud, Badshah’s son Mamunur Rashid, deceased Lachir Uddin’s son Samsuddin and Alamgir’s son Belal Hossain.
According to the summary of the case, on the afternoon of July 5, 2015, in the ancestral property of Abdus Samad of Awrah Kalimhur Mahalla of Kalai Municipality, the accused armed with indigenous weapons were cutting the soil and filling their other land. When Abdus Samad’s two sons Saidul and Shariful stopped them, the accused beat Saidul and Shariful with native weapons and left bloody injuries.
Locals rescued them and admitted them to Kalai Upazila Health Complex. After understanding the severity of the condition, the doctors shifted Saidul to Bogra Shaheed Ziaur Rahman Medical College Hospital. From there, Saidul was transferred to Dhaka Medical College Hospital. Saidul died on July 14 of that year while undergoing treatment there.
The father of the victim, Abdus Samad, filed a murder case at the Kalai Police Station as the plaintiff.
